Claire Robinson

BA (Hons) Social Work (Open)

Claire, has extensive experience of working with individuals and families  in paid and voluntary capacities, with substance misuse as a key theme including in her role as Chair of the Tyne and Wear Citizens Mental Health Commission. 

Claire joined PROPS in 2005, initially working with parents of young people involved in substance related offending. In 2010 she established a specialist service for young people affected by substance misuse, which included the delivery of parenting programmes within HMP Durham. Professionally, Claire is a registered Social Worker, Fellow of Clore Social and an Accredited Daring Way™ Facilitator. 

In 2012 Claire accepted the role of service manager and is now chief executive of the expanded PROPS North East, overseeing strategic development, including the expansion of of Positive Practice.

Claire is responsible for the integration the principles of CRA approaches across  PROPS, driving quality and efficiency, making more effective use of intervention time and increasing focus on supporting whole families.

Helen completed her CRAFT accreditation in 2012 and has gone on to deliver training to family intervention professionals and other social care workers in north-east England.

She works on a one-to-one basis with carers and in groups as a
practising family intervention worker using CRAFT skills to augment her support for them to help them encourage their loved ones into treatment.

Helen has 16 years’ experience of family intervention work, having been contracted to Turning Point to work with both substance misusers and carers before joining PROPS 11  years ago and helping to establish the support service at the North Tyneside office.

In October 2015, Helen became the first person in the UK to become a supservisor and trainer in ACRA (Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approch), part of the same family of interventions as CRAFT.

John ThompsonJohn Thompson

Business Development Manager

After graduating, John accumulated more than 30 years’ experience in business and political journalism. He ran his own business magazine publishing and business consultancy firm, dealing with and advising some of the leading decision makers in the north-east and the UK.

For Positive Practice Partnership he deals with strategic business development, marketing, course organisation and promotion. He also advises PROPS on strategic development.
